Edison Case Study

Precision Flooring for High-Performance Automotive Facilities

In high-end automotive environments, flooring must perform under constant operational stress while maintaining a refined appearance for customers. At Mercedes-Benz of Edison and Porsche Edison, Argelith delivered engineered ceramic tile solutions designed to support both service operations and customer-facing spaces with consistency and reliability. Both projects were completed for Ray Catena Motor Car Corp., one of the Northeast's leading luxury automotive dealer groups.

Project Overview

Argelith supported two distinct projects for Ray Catena Motor Car Corp., one of the Northeast's leading luxury automotive dealer groups.

Mercedes-Benz of Edison involved the renovation of an existing service center, where Argelith tiles were installed throughout the service drive, customer walkways, and vehicle delivery areas.

Porsche Edison, completed in 2024, included approximately 23,000 square feet of Argelith's fully vitrified 4" x 8" x 5/8" R11 industrial ceramic tile. The installation included a three-lane service drive, customer reception areas, and a service department with more than 20 service bays.

Both facilities required flooring systems capable of supporting continuous vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, and demanding cleaning protocols, while maintaining a professional, high-end appearance.

The Challenge

Automotive service environments introduce a combination of mechanical stress and chemical exposure that can quickly compromise conventional flooring systems. Service drives and shop areas are subjected to constant vehicle traffic, water, road salt, oils, lubricants, tire wear, and aggressive cleaning procedures, creating a demanding environment for any flooring system.

Service drive areas are among the most visible spaces within an automotive facility. In addition to withstanding daily operational demands, these areas must maintain a clean, professional appearance for customers entering the dealership for service.

In addition to performance requirements, project execution was a critical factor. Material availability and on-time delivery were essential to keep both renovation and new construction timelines on track.

The Solution

Argelith was selected based on successful performance at multiple previous Ray Catena facilities. Having experienced the long-term durability and reliability of Argelith flooring systems firsthand, the dealership group continued to specify Argelith for new projects and renovations.

The fully vitrified ceramic tile features a water absorption rate of 0.1% or less, helping resist fluid penetration while providing long-term durability in demanding automotive environments.

lip-resistant surface profiles were incorporated in active service areas to enhance traction, while maintaining a clean, uniform appearance in customer-facing zones such as walkways and vehicle delivery areas. Just as important, Argelith ensured that materials were available and delivered on schedule, supporting the pace of both projects without disruption.

Performance Meets Presentation

In addition to durability, the flooring system was incorporated into the dealership's overall design aesthetic. Anthracite-colored tile was used within the primary service drive lanes, creating a visual connection to the dark exterior paving leading into the facility.

This design approach creates a seamless transition from the exterior arrival area into the service reception space while maintaining the durability required for continuous vehicle traffic and daily operations.

Performance in Daily Operations

Following installation, the flooring system has performed beyond expectations in both facilities.

“Yes, above our expectations.”

More than a year after installation, the flooring continues to support daily operations while maintaining its appearance in both customer-facing and service environments. The tile continues to withstand continuous vehicle traffic in multi-lane service drives and heavy use within the 20-bay shop. Daily cleaning practices have not compromised the surface, and the flooring maintains both its functional integrity and visual consistency.

Looking Ahead

When asked about future projects, the client’s response was direct.

“We would absolutely choose the same flooring solution again.”

Today, Argelith flooring systems continue to be utilized throughout multiple Ray Catena facilities, demonstrating long-term confidence in both the product and the partnership.
